Creating Tax Groups

Menu items are assigned to tax groups. Taxes and their regular or alternate rates are assigned to tax groups here.

Note that when a menu item is assigned to a tax group containing both inclusive and exclusive tax records, the inclusive taxes are calculated first and exclusive taxes are calculated from the adjusted gross price. Inclusive tax records are taxes with the Price Includes Tax flag enabled. For more information on inclusive taxes, refer to the Taxes article.

  1. On the Advanced Setup > Taxes > Tax Groups screen, click Add Tax Group.
  2. The Add Tax Group page appears. Complete the following fields:
    1. Name: Enter a name for the tax group.
    2. Cross Reference (optional): Add a cross-reference number for the tax group.
    3. Tax Mapping: Select the regular or alternate tax rate for the desired tax(es).
  3. Click Save Tax Group.
